We quickly realised being in a deficit at this point in time when stress levels were reaching a new high for me was really impacting my training and well being - so we decided to switch course and go up a weight class for this comp with the goal to have fun and get strong! I am forever greatful to Shania for encouraging me to do this and being so supportive and understanding along the way. Lucy - Powerlifting
I began my powerlifting journey following free online templates. It was all percentage based and very generic; not even body size specific. Once I decided to take Powerlifting to the next level, I signed up with shania. From the get-go we clicked and I noticed a huge difference in my training and even my attitude towards training. My lifts improved so much after following a personalised program for my body type and ability. I struggled the most with my squats and bench in the beginning and now they are my best lifts! I also struggled with following RPE, as all I knew was to do everything 100%. Shania is so patient and encouraging, yet will pull you up when you need it. I now have a better understanding of RPE; when to pull back and when to push. I’ve also learnt that Powerlifting is just as mental as it is physical. Having a coach who can support you with both is priceless.

I’ve been working with Shania for almost 3 years - through an introduction into strength training all the way to competing at a national level in powerlifting. Her support for me has always been unwavering.
Before my first novice comp, I was pretty shy, I had very little confidence in the gym or under the bar and was very uncertain about ever competing because I didn’t feel like I fit the “mold” of a powerlifter. Shania encouraged me to step on the platform that first time and I’m so glad she did. She made me realise there was no “mold” and powerlifting is for anyone if you set your mind on it and love doing it. I have since competed at 7 comps under her guidance.
Since my first sanctioned comp, I have gone 9/9 at a state qualifier, QLD states and APA nationals and stepped out onto all 3 platforms feeling confident and having fun with competing. We have added 122.5kg to my total in the last 2 years, but it’s the confidence, resilience and growth I have gained as a person and an athlete under Shania’s guidance that’s the biggest achievement of all.
